SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Nov. 2, 2024) – The UIC volleyball team (18-7, 10-3 MVC) battled back from a 2-0 deficit Saturday night, defeating Missouri State (10-15, 4-9 MVC) in a Missouri Valley Conference five-set thriller.
Four Flames collected double-digit kill performances; Freshman
Antonie Kelnárová (Prague, Czech Republic) tallied 14 kills and a pair of service aces. Sophomore
Gabi Peter (Gilbert, Ill./Hampshire) collected 13 kills and a pair of blocks. Graduate student
Zahria Woodard (Oak Park, Ill./ Oak Park and River Forest) contributed a dozen kills and four total blocks. Senior
Kayanna Jones (Normal, Ill./Normal West) collected 11 kills and five blocks in the win.

"I think we showed our resilience with a reverse sweep against Missouri State. After dropping the first two set, we entered beat mode in the third and fourth sets, dominating to force a fifth and final set. We truly never gave up, pushing through each point to secure the win!

- The Flames have won their past four matches, securing their second season series sweep with the win against the Bears and the three-set sweep over Southern Illinois (10-14, 3-10 MVC) Friday night.
- UIC tallied 21 service aces over the weekend, with junior setter Francesca Venturini (Bergamo, Italy/ Liceo Classico Paolo Sarpi) leading the way with 10.
- Kelnárová has had double-digit kill performances in three of the past four matches for the Flames. She has the third-most kills on the team this season, tallying 189 kills.
