Match Recap: Men's Tennis |

Men’s Tennis Cruises Past IUPUI Sunday Afternoon

The Flames defeated the Jaguars 5-2 at the XS Tennis Village

CHICAGO (Feb. 11, 2024) – After dropping the doubles point, the UIC men's tennis program (3-3) found its groove in singles competition, winning five of its six matches against IUPUI (3-5) to earn the 5-2 victory over the Jaguars Sunday.

With the win the Flames remain perfect in home competitions, with all three of UIC's victories in 2024 taking place at the XS Tennis Village.   COMMENT FROM HEAD COACH JOVAN PARLIC

"I'm very proud of our team's effort and fight today. We didn't necessarily play our best tennis, but we fought the hardest so far this season. This was a good win for our program."

MATCH RECAP
  • The Jaguars took the doubles point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3. UIC's No. 2 pair of Robinson Le Meur (Evreux, France/Sciences Po Bordeaux) and Aleksa Bucan (Belgrade, Serbia/Arkansas) had a 5-2 lead in their match, but it did not finish due to IUPUI already securing the doubles point.
  • In the singles competition, the Flames showed their grit, winning three of their five matches in three sets.
  • At No. 1 singles, Randy Wilson (Miami, Fla./Florida Gulf Coast) won in three sets to secure his third singles victory of the year.
  • Bucan performed strong again at the No. 2 singles spot, shutting out his opponent 6-0 in straight sets. He has four singles wins in 2024.
  • Le Meur continued his dominance at the No. 3 spot, winning his match in three sets. The sophomore is currently on a four-match win streak.
  • After dropping the first set, Edoardo Bottino (Genoa, Italy/Queens University) won back-to-back sets to secure the three set victory over his IUPUI opponent. The senior is a perfect 4-0 when competing this season at the No. 4 singles spot.
  • In an exciting match at No. 5 singles,  Gustavo Schwebel (Salvador, Brazil/Colegio Antonio Vieira) fought back after losing the first set to win in three sets. The senior is on a three-match win streak.
