CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (February 17, 2024) – The UIC baseball team continued its series against Kansas Saturday afternoon, as the Flames and Jayhawks had their first pitch delayed for the second straight day due to rain. After the Flames jumped ahead early for the second time in as many days, a back-and-forth affair ensued, with UIC's offense charging ahead late in the game and pulling away for a 13-6 victory.

- The Flames took an early lead for the second day in a row Saturday, as Kendall Ewell (Calumet City, Ill./Kentucky) tallied his second RBI of the young season in the top of the third inning on a single to right-center field, plating Vidal Colon (Grafton, Wis./University School of Milwaukee) for the game's first run.

The Flames added a second run in the third inning as
AJ Henkle (Huntley, Ill./McHenry County College) scored on a wild pitch.
- UIC would run its lead to three in the following inning, as Ryan Nagelbach (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) tallied his first RBI of the season on a sacrifice fly to right field, giving the Flames a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning.
- The Jayhawks struck back in the home half of the fourth, as a two-RBI double to left center plated a pair of runs to reduce the UIC advantage to one at 3-2.
- With no outs in the sixth inning, the Flames re-started the offense and loaded the bases, before Henkle drove in a run on a single to right field, and added a fifth run on a fielder's choice off the bat of Ewell to take a 5-2 lead.

- After the Jayhawks tied the game in the home half of the seventh inning with a three-run home run, UIC answered back in the top of the eighth with an offensive eruption for five runs. James Harris (Chicago, Ill./Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep) highlighted the offensive outburst with the Flames' first home run of the season, a three-run shot to the opposite field to put the Flames ahead 9-5.

Nagelbach tallied the final run of the inning, notching his second RBI of the game on a single through the left side, giving UIC the 10-5 lead.
- The Jayhawks scraped across a run in the bottom of the eighth, but would get no closer than four runs down, as the Flames pushed across three more runs in the top of the ninth to earn a 13-6 victory.

With victories in the first two games of the series, UIC earns its first series win over a Power-5 conference team since Feb. 25-26, 2022, when the Flames took two out of three from California on the road.

UIC will close out its three-game set with the Jayhawks Sunday afternoon, as first pitch is scheduled for noon CT.
