Baseball Drops Series Finale Against Kansas Sunday

Three Jayhawks Home Runs Stifle UIC Early to Conclude Series

CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS (February 18, 2024) – The UIC baseball team closed out a three-game series against Kansas Sunday, as the Flames looked for the series sweep after winning the opening two contests. After falling behind mid-way through the game, the Flames were unable to recover after three Jayhawks home runs proved too much for the UIC offense.

COACH'S COMMENTS

SCORING SUMMARY
  • For the first time in the series, the Flames were not the first on the board, as a Jake English grand slam in the home half of the fourth inning put the Jayhawks on top 4-0.
  • Offense was difficult to come by for the Flames on the afternoon, as UIC managed just three hits in the first five innings.
  • Kansas added to its lead in the bottom of the fifth, as a three-run home run put the Jayhawks ahead 7-0.
  • UIC finally scratched the board in the top of the eighth inning, as a bases-loaded fielder's choice from Rayth Petersen (Barrington, Ill./Morton College) brought home the Flames' first run of the afternoon to bring the score to 7-1.
  • The Jayhawks added an insurance run on a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, and the Flames answered with a solo shot of their own in the ninth, a pinch-hit big fly off the bat of Jack Snyder (Manteno, Ill./Kankakee CC), his first hit of the season and of his UIC career.

  • The Flames would be unable to pull any closer in the game, as the Jayhawks took the series finale by an 8-2 final score.
