Baseball Set for Mid-Week Contest at Granderson Stadium

First Home Game of the Season on Tap Tuesday

CHICAGO (Feb. 27, 2024) – The UIC baseball team (3-4, 0-0 MVC) is set for its first home game of the season Tuesday, as the Flames prepare to host Division III North Park (2-3, 0-0 CCIW) at Curtis Granderson Stadium.

FLAMES FACTS
  • UIC enters the week after winning one of three at the 2024 Sugarland College Classic, defeating host Houston Christian by a 10-7 final score on Saturday. The Flames were narrowly defeated by Big East foe Creighton on Sunday 12-7 to close the event.
  • Jackson Bessette (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) has largely helped pace the UIC offense this season, as his .467 batting average leads all qualifying Flames.
  • Rayth Petersen (Barrington, Ill./Barrington), James Harris (Chicago, Ill./Gwendolyn Brooks), and AJ Henkle (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) are tied atop the RBI leaderboard for UIC, all having driven in eight runs in seven games this year.

SCOUTING NORTH PARK
  • The Vikings enter play this week after splitting a Saturday double-header, closing with a win over Concordia University Chicago.
  • Alex DiVito leads the charge offensively for North Park, as he boasts a staggering .650 batting average through five games played.
 
UP NEXT
Following Tuesday afternoon's game, the Flames will return to the road, as they will travel to Athens, Ohio for a three game weekend series at Ohio. Game one of the series is set for a 3:00 p.m. first pitch on Friday, March 1.
