CHICAGO (March 20, 2024) – The UIC women's tennis program (3-9) continues its three-match homestand this week, with two matches at the XS Tennis Village. The Flames conclude non-conference play with a 10 a.m. match Thursday against Oral Roberts (4-8), before opening Missouri Valley Conference competition Sunday at 12 p.m. against Drake.
SCOUTING ORAL ROBERTS
- The Golden Eagles are 4-8 on the season and are entering Thursday's contest on a three-match win streak. In its last match, Oral Roberts defeated North Dakota 5-2.
- ORU is 0-4 in away contests this season.
- Thursday's contest will be the first between the Flames and Golden Eagles programs.
SCOUTING DRAKE
- Drake enters Sunday's contest with a 4-8 record on the season and is currently 2-7 away from home this season.
- The Bulldogs have lost six of their last seven matches, with all seven matches taking place on the road.
- Drake leads the overall series against UIC 7-5 and won last season's match in Des Moines, Iowa 5-2.
- The Bulldogs are the reigning MVC champion and reach the NCAA Tournament after winning the 2023 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Tennis Championship.
GUSTAFSSON NAMED MVC SINGLES PLAYER OF THE WEEK
- For the second time this season, the Missouri Valley Conference has named UIC women's tennis senior Agnes Gustafsson (Paris, France/Akademi Båstad Gymnasium) its Singles Player of the Week.
- This is Gustafsson's fifth time receiving the weekly honor from the MVC in her career.
- Gustafsson received the weekly award after a strong performance at No. 1 singles last Friday against Rutgers' Tara Chilton. The senior won her match in straight-sets (6-4, 6-1) against her Big Ten counterpart to win one of two singles points for the Flames. Rutgers was ranked No. 75 in last week's ITA team rankings.
