(March 28, 2024) – The UIC softball team (8-23, 1-5 MVC) returns to the road this weekend to face Evansville (9-22, 4-4 MVC) in a three-game Missouri Valley Conference series (Friday through Sunday) on Tri-State Orthopaedics Field at James and Dorothy Cooper Stadium in Evansville, Ind. SCOUTING EVANSVILLE
- This will be the second series between UIC and Evansville since the Flames joined the MVC prior to last season. UIC hosted Evansville in 2023 at Flames Field, with the Flames sweeping the series behind two extra-inning victories. UIC now holds an 8-4 lead in the all-time series with the Purple Aces.
- Evansville has won eight of its past 10 games including four conference wins (one against Indiana State and a series sweep against Valparaiso).
- Redshirt junior Zoe Frossard has been off to a strong start with a team-leading .321 batting average and 26 hits this season. Sophomore Jess Willsey has maintained a .302 batting average with three home runs and 17 RBI.
- In the circle, junior Sydney Weatherford has pitched 31.2 innings for Evansville this season with a team-best 2.43 ERA. Senior Megan Brenton leads the team with 39 strikeouts.
LAST TIME OUT: SOUTHERN ILLINOIS
- The Flames faced a tough battle and an 0-3 weekend in their home opening series against league-leading Southern Illinois (23-4, 8-0 MVC) at Flames Field.
- Senior Larisa Villa (La Habra, Calif./La Habra) collected four hits during the series. She now leads the team in batting average (.295) and hits (26).
- Junior Grace Fleming (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan) crushed a home run, her second of the season, in the second game of the Sunday doubleheader. She is the second UIC player with multiple home runs this year.
- Graduate student Christina Toniolo (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) pitched 11 innings in the circle last weekend, striking out eight SIU batters. She ranks sixth in the MVC with 51 strikeouts this season.
