Baseball Drops Series Opener at Indiana State Friday

Flames Fall in MVC Contest in Terre Haute

Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (March 29, 2024) – The UIC baseball team (16-8, 2-2 MVC) opened a three-game series against Indiana State (19-5, 3-1 MVC) Friday afternoon, as the Flames and Sycamores battled for early-season position in the Missouri Valley Conference. Despite jumping out to an early advantage, the Flames surrendered the lead to the Sycamores late in the game and fell by a 10-6 final score in the series opener.

GAME SUMMARY
  • Kendal Ewell (Calumet City, Ill./Kentucky) opened the scoring early for the Flames Friday, as a single through the right side brought home AJ Henkle (Huntley, Ill./McHenry County College) to put UIC ahead 1-0 early. James Harris (Chicago, Ill./Gwendolyn Brooks) launched his third home run of the season to extend the UIC lead to 4-0 after one.
 

 
  • Henkle launched his team-leading fifth home run of the season with two outs in the top of the second inning, a two-run shot to give UIC its biggest lead of the game at 6-0.
 

 
  • The Sycamores answered for two runs in the bottom of the second and would go on to tie the game with a run in the third and three in the fourth. Indiana State went on to take the lead in the bottom of the fifth, plating four runs off freshman relief pitcher Presley Wachowiak (Brookfield, Wis./Brookfield East).
  • UIC was unable to scratch a run across in the final few innings and dropped the series opener 10-6.
 
UP NEXT
The Flames and Sycamores will continue their three-game series Saturday afternoon, as they are set for a 1 p.m. CT first pitch from Bob Warn Field. Saturday's game will not be seen on ESPN+, but a live stats feed will be available, and fans can get live updates from @UIC_Baseball on X.
