CHICAGO (March 29, 2024) – Following its four-match homestand, the UIC men's tennis program (9-7, 1-4 MAC) is back on the road for a conference road contest against Northern Illinois (15-3, 4-1 MAC).
Saturday's contest will start at 1 p.m. and take place at Sycamore High School in Sycamore, Ill.
SCOUTING NORTHERN ILLINOIS
- Northern Illinois is undefeated at home this season, sporting an 8-0 record.
- NIU enters Saturday's contest riding a four-match win streak and is 7-1 in March.
- The Huskies swept the Flames in their first match of the season on March 16 at the Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts.
- In singles competition, five NIU players are on win streaks of four matches or longer while three student-athletes have 9-1 records over their last ten matches. Freshman Saul Berdullas is the lone NIU player to remain undefeated in MAC play and leads the Huskies with 14 victories this season.
LAST MATCH RECAP
- The Flames won its first conference match as affiliate members of the Mid-American Conference, as the Flames took down Buffalo in a thrilling 4-3 match last Sunday afternoon at the XS Tennis Village.
- UIC won the doubles point along with victories at the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles positions in Sunday's match.
- Senior Aleksa Bucan (Belgrade, Serbia/Arkansas) clinched the match victory for the Flames with his two-set win at No. 2 singles.
RANDY WILSON NAMED MAC MEN'S TENNIS SINGLES PLAYER OF THE WEEK
- Following his undefeated week in No. 1 singles competition, the Mid-American Conference named UIC senior Randy Wilson (Miami, Fla. / Florida Gulf Coast) its Men's Tennis Singles Player of the Week Tuesday afternoon.
- Wilson defeated Toledo's Marko Galic 7-6 (7-5), 6-1 and Buffalo's Artem Alekseychuk 6-3, 6-3 to go 2-0 in UIC's two conference matches last week. The senior has eight singles victories, all at the No. 1 position, this season.
- Wilson is the third men's tennis student-athlete to be named Singles Player of the Week this spring. Aleksa Bucan and sophomore Robinson Le Meur (Evreux, France/Sciences Po Bordeaux) received the honor in February.
BACK ON THE ROAD
- Saturday's road contest is UIC's first since March 10 at Ball State.
- This weekend's match will be the Flames' ninth road contest of the season. The team is 3-5 currently away from home.
- UIC's match against NIU is the start of a three-match road swing for the program. The team travels to Toledo (April 5) and Buffalo (April 7).
