TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (March 29, 2024) – The UIC baseball team (16-9, 2-3 MVC) looked to even its three-game series at Indiana State (20-5, 4-1 MVC) on Saturday, as the Flames looked to bounce back after dropping the series opener Friday afternoon. After falling behind in the bottom of the eighth inning, a dramatic two-run home run for the Flames caused the game to go to extra innings, where they eventually fell by a final score of 9-8 in 11 innings.

GAME SUMMARY
- For the first time in the last six games, the Flames did not score the first run of Saturday afternoon's game against Indiana State, as the Sycamores struck for the game's first run on an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning.
- UIC answered back just one-half inning later, as James Harris (Chicago, Ill./Gwendolyn Brooks) hit his second home run in as many days, a solo shot to left center field to tie the game 1-1.
- Indiana State struck back in the bottom of the second, plating a pair of runs to take a 3-1 lead.
- After another pair of runs crossed for the Sycamores to take a 5-1 lead, the Flames woke up the bats in the top of the sixth, plating three runs thanks to home runs from Ryan Nagelbach (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) and Kendal Ewell (Calumet City, Ill./Kentucky) to draw within one run at 5-4.
- Two innings later, Ewell tied the game with an RBI double in the left center field gap, bringing home Jackson Bessette (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin).
- The Sycamores loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the eighth and were able to push across the go-ahead run on a fielder's choice to second base, re-establishing the lead at 6-5.
- The Flames got a runner on base in the top of the ninth on a pinch-hit single for Marcus Heusohn (Waterloo, Ill./Lindenwood), and after AJ Taylor (Downers Grove, Ill./College of DuPage) entered as a pinch runner, Zane Zielinski (Chicago, Ill./Northeast CC) hit a two-run home run to give UIC a 7-6 lead. The Sycamores brought the game level in the bottom of the ninth, sending the Flames to extra innings for the fourth time this season.
- After scratching across a run in the top of the 11th on a Nagelbach RBI single, the Sycamore answered back in the bottom of the inning, plating two runs to earn a 9-8 walk-off win.
