COMMENT FROM HEAD COACH LYNN CURLYO
"
Miranda Gomez pitched well today. Momentum just shifted to Evansville in the sixth and we never got it back. Happy to get the series win this weekend.
GAME RECAP
- Evansville put two runs on in the first inning, but the Purple Aces' momentum was thwarted when Gomez forced a line out to junior Grace Fleming (Long Beach, Calif/Millikan) to end the frame.
- Cowing began the top of the second with a single to right field. She later scored when Stickney's line out gave her enough time to tag up and score from third and give UIC an early 1-0 lead.
- Cowing extended UIC's lead to 2-0 with a bases-loaded single in the bottom of the third, scoring freshman Cameran Rios (Effingham, Ill./St. Anthony).
- Senior Emma Crowley (Peoria, Ill./Peoria Notre Dame) opened the fourth inning with a walk, followed by her first stolen base of the season, but was left stranded in scoring position.
- Evansville would rally and score once in the sixth and twice in the seventh, the latter two being unearned runs and the last on a wild pitch to end the game.
BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
- After winning the first two games of the weekend, UIC clinched its first series win against an MVC opponent this season.
- Cowing finished the weekend with a team-high .556 batting average (5-of-9) .
- Gomez and graduate student Christina Toniolo (Crystal Lake, Ill./ Crystal Lake South) posted a combined 1.77 ERA in the series.
- Crowley's stolen base was the third of her collegiate career and first since May 2022 against IUPUI.
