KALAMAZOO, Mich. (March 8, 2024) – In its first conference match as an affiliate member of the Mid-American Conference, the UIC men's tennis program (7-3, 0-1) dropped a 5-2 contest to reigning MAC regular season champion Western Michigan (9-3, 1-0) Friday afternoon at the West Hills Athletic Club.
The Flames won the doubles point for the sixth time this season, but were unable to hold off the Broncos in singles play, as WMU won five of six matches to secure the conference victory.

- The Flames won the doubles points behind 6-4 victories from UIC's No. 2 pair of Gustavo Schwebel (Salvador, Brazil/Colegio Antonio Vieira) and Edoardo Bottino (Genoa, Italy/Queens University) and the No. 3 team of of Aleksa Bucan (Belgrade, Serbia/Arkansas) and Robinson Le Meur's (Evreux, France/Sciences Po Bordeaux).
- Bucan and Le Meur have won six matches in a row and are a perfect 8-0 at the No. 3 doubles spot
- In singles competition, Le Meur was the lone UIC student-athlete to record a win, sweeping his WMU opponent at No. 3 singles.
- Le Meur is on an eight-match win streak competing at the No. 3 singles position and is tied for the team lead for singles victories (eight) in 2024 alongside Bucan.
- Five of the six singles matches Friday were straight-set sweeps.

UP NEXT
- The Flames continue their weekend on the road with a Sunday contest at Ball State. Sunday's match in Muncie, Ind. will take place at 12 p.m. at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
- The Cardinals are 6-5 in 2023 and split their competition last week with a 4-0 win against Villanova and a 6-1 loss against Pacific in California.
- UIC and Ball State have played three common opponents this season. Both programs have wins against Cleveland State and IUPUI and a loss against Eastern Kentucky.
- Sunday's match is the first time the two teams have competed in at least 25 years. UIC did not track opponents prior to the 1999 season.
