Softball Travels to Music City Classic This Weekend
Flames scheduled for back-to-back doubleheaders against Lipscomb and Belmont
NASHVILLE (March 8, 2024) – The UIC softball team (6-14) concludes non–conference tournament play this weekend, traveling to Nashville to compete in the Music City Classic. The Flames will play back-to-back doubleheaders during the tournament, first facing off Saturday against Lipscomb on Draper Diamond at Smith Stadium. The following day, UIC will play a nonconference twinbill against fellow Missouri Valley Conference member Belmont at the Bruins' E.S. Rose Park.
The only tournament games that will be streamed this weekend will be Sunday's contests at Belmont, with live stats for all four tournament games available at
UICFlames.com.

SCOUTING LIPSCOMB
- This will be the first meeting between the teams since 2019. The Flames are looking for their first victory against Lipscomb, with the Bisons having won the first three series meetings.
- Lipscomb looks to bounce back after falling in a midweek matchup at Austin Peay, 4-0. The Bisons currently boast an 8-12 record.
- The Bisons have four batters batting over .300 — Macyn Kirby (.344), Briyana Wright (.302), Kaylyn Belfield (.302) and Josey Polk (.300).
SCOUTING BELMONT
- UIC aims for redemption after Belmont swept the Flames last season in Chicago, aiming to collect the program's first win against the Bruins since March 2019.
- Belmont returns home this weekend after a midweek win at Samford, 6-3. The Bruins are currently 10-6 on the season, sitting second in the MVC standings.
- Sophomore Nicole Hughes has been one of the top hitters in The Valley, batting .392 with three home runs and 15 RBI.
LAST TIME OUT: FIU CLASSIC
- UIC went 2-3 at the FIU Classic last weekend in Miami, earning wins over North Dakota and host FIU.
- Three Flames connected on home runs during the five games — graduate student Carlee Jo Clark (Carol Stream, Ill./Southern Illinois), senior Larisa Villa (La Habra, Calif./La Habra) and junior Grace Fleming (Long Beach, Calif./Millikan).
- Clark led the team with four RBI last weekend while senior Anna Walker (Burnside, Ill./Warsaw) had a team-high five hits.
- Senior pitcher Miranda Gomez (Pico Rivera, Calif./Bishop Amat) collected her first win of the season against North Dakota to open the FIU Classic. She finished the weekend with a 1.29 ERA in seven innings of work.
- Graduate student pitcher Christina Toniolo (Crystal Lake, Ill./Crystal Lake South) registered her second complete game victory in the Flames' 3-1 win at FIU. She has 11 complete-game victories in her UIC career.
- Junior Hailey Cowing (Torrance, Calif./West Torrance) had a strong showing in the batter's box with four hits and three RBI in three games last weekend.
- Freshman Cameran Rios (Effingham, Ill./St Anthony) batted .308 at the FIU Classic, posting the second multi-hit game of her young career (2-for-3) in the 3-1 win over the host Panthers.
