CHICAGO (April 12, 2024) – Playing indoors at the XS Tennis Village, the UIC men's tennis program (10-10, 2-7 MAC) fell 6-1 to Western Michigan (15-5, 7-2 MAC) Friday afternoon in conference competition.
Senior
Aleksa Bucan (Belgrade, Serbia/Arkansas) was victories for the Flames at the No. 3 singles position in Friday's loss to the Broncos.

"It was a very close match today even though the final score didn't show it. We were competitive on every court and that's what we're looking to do. We are excited for Sunday's match against Ball State. It will be a nice day for some outdoor tennis and we look forward to honoring our seniors."
MATCH RECAP
- In doubles competition, UIC's No. 2 pair of Robinson Le Meur (Evreux, France/Sciences Po Bordeaux) and Bucan won their match 6-2 for their 11th victory of the season. The duo is on a four-match win streak and is 11-2 in 2024. Western Michigan won the other two doubles matches to clinch the doubles point.
- At No. 3 singles, after splitting the first two sets, Bucan won his third set 10-2 to clinch the three-set victory. The senior has 11 singles victories in 2024 and is 2-0 competing at the No. 3 singles spot.
- Le Meur and Gustavo Schwebel (Salvador, Brazil/Colegio Antonio Vieira) both fell in hard-fought three-set matches against their Western Michigan counterparts Friday afternoon.
- The Broncos won the other three singles matches to secure the 6-1 victory over the Flames.

UP NEXT
- The Flames conclude its regular season Sunday as they host Ball State Sunday afternoon. Sunday's match against the Cardinals will start at 12 p.m. and take place atthe Flames Outdoor Tennis Courts.
- The Cardinals are 11-8 overall and 5-3 in MAC competition in 2024. The program is currently in fourth-place in the conference standings.
- In the first match between the two programs this season, Ball State came away with the 6-1 victory. March's contest was the first meeting between the two programs in UIC's history.
- Eli Herran leads Ball State with 14 wins in 2024. The graduate student is 7-0 in MAC competition and on an eight-match win streak. He's 9-1 over his last ten matches.

- UIC will honor its five-member senior class prior to Sunday's match against Ball State.
- The Flames' five seniors are Edoardo Bottino (Genoa, Italy/Queens University), Aleksa Bucan (Belgrade, Serbia/Arkansas), Gustavo Schwebel (Salvador, Brazil/Colegio Antonio Vieira), Artem Iermolov (Las Vegas, Nev./Clark) and Randy Wilson (Miami, Fla./Florida Gulf Coast).
- The Senior Day festivities will take place starting at 11:45 a.m.
