CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (April 14, 2024) – The UIC men's and women's track and field teams had a breakthrough weekend at the Gary Wieneke Memorial on Saturday in Champaign, Ill., highlighted by senior
Olivia Dumas (DeKalb, Ill./DeKalb) who broke a 20-year-old school record in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.07 seconds.
The meet, hosted by Illinois, brought out several other strong programs including Purdue, Notre Dame, DePaul, and Milwaukee, as well as Missouri Valley Conference schools Illinois State, Indiana State and Bradley.
COACH'S COMMENT
"The team saw several record-breaking performances as our athletes had a great opportunity to compete against top programs in the Midwest," said head coach
Paul Zavala. "We are incredibly proud to see Olivia break the school record in the 100 meters, cementing her legacy as one of the top performers in UIC history."
TOP FINISHERS
Women
- Dumas is now the school record holder in the 100-meter dash. She also achieved a new personal best in the event, while placing seventh (12.07).
- Freshman Praise Oyebanji (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) crossed the finish line fifth in the 800 meters (2:14.86).
- Fellow classmate Indigo Sterud (Rockton, Ill./Hononegah) also raced in the 800 meters, coming in eighth place with a personal-best time of 2:18.89.
Men
- Junior Max Rivera (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) moved up to third in Flames history in the 100m dash with a personal-best 10.59 which put him in sixth at the Gary Wieneke Memorial.
- Senior Sacrad Michelin (Evanston, Ill./Evanston Township) took third in the 200m, while posting a new personal-best time (21.60) and moving into the fourth spot in the UIC record book.
- The 4x100m relay team, made up of freshman Amare Harris (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington), Rivera, Michelin and junior Paul Sackman (Lincolnwood, Ill./Niles West) claimed fourth place with a season-best time of 41.15 seconds.
