GAME SUMMARY
  • For the second consecutive day, the Flames got out to a quick start in the home half of the first inning, scoring four runs highlighted by a two-RBI double down the left field line for AJ Taylor (Downers Grove, Ill./College of DuPage).

  • After an RBI single in the second from Kendal Ewell (Calumet City, Ill./Kentucky), the Racers answered back with a pair of runs in the top of the third to pull the lead down to 5-2 in favor of UIC.
  • The Flames answered with a pair of runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth, taking advantage of an RBI groundout and a Racers throwing error to extend the lead to 7-2. Despite a pair of Racers runs in the top of the fifth, UIC began to pull away in the fifth and seventh innings, pushing across five more runs to pull to 12-5.
  • Zane Zielinski (Chicago, Ill./Lake View) added another insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 13-5. Ewell ended the game in the bottom of the eighth with a walk-off home run, initiating the mercy rule at 15-5.
