CHICAGO (April 21, 2024) – The UIC baseball team (24-12, 9-6 MVC) concluded its three-game series against Murray State (23-16, 7-8 MVC) on Sunday, as the Flames were in search of their third straight series victory. UIC got the bats out early and often, cruising to a 15-5 mercy rule victory in eight innings.

GAME SUMMARY
- For the second consecutive day, the Flames got out to a quick start in the home half of the first inning, scoring four runs highlighted by a two-RBI double down the left field line for AJ Taylor (Downers Grove, Ill./College of DuPage).

- After an RBI single in the second from Kendal Ewell (Calumet City, Ill./Kentucky), the Racers answered back with a pair of runs in the top of the third to pull the lead down to 5-2 in favor of UIC.
- The Flames answered with a pair of runs of their own in the bottom of the fourth, taking advantage of an RBI groundout and a Racers throwing error to extend the lead to 7-2. Despite a pair of Racers runs in the top of the fifth, UIC began to pull away in the fifth and seventh innings, pushing across five more runs to pull to 12-5.
- Zane Zielinski (Chicago, Ill./Lake View) added another insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly, bringing the score to 13-5. Ewell ended the game in the bottom of the eighth with a walk-off home run, initiating the mercy rule at 15-5.

UP NEXT
The Flames remain home this week, as they will host Northern Illinois Wednesday night at Les Miller Field at Curtis Granderson Stadium. A return to Missouri Valley Conference play follows Wednesday's game, as UIC will welcome Valparaiso to Chicago for a weekend series beginning on Friday, April 26.
