CHICAGO (April 24, 2024) – The UIC baseball team (25-12, 9-6 MVC) continued its season-long eight game home stand on Wednesday, as it welcomed Northern Illinois (13-27, 7-11 MAC) to Les Miller Field at Curtis Granderson Stadium.

GAME SUMMARY
- The Huskies jumped out to an early lead in Tuesday's game, plating three runs in the opening frame before the Flames answered back in the bottom of the first, as Zane Zielinski (Chicago, Ill./Lake View) stole third base and came around to score on a throwing error by the Northern Illinois catcher.

- The two teams traded zeroes for three innings before the Huskies tallied another run in the top of the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. UIC would answer an inning later, plating two runs with an RBI groundout from Ryan Nagelbach (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) and a sacrifice fly from AJ Taylor (Downers Grove, Ill./College of DuPage).

- Zane Zielinski and Jackson Bessette both extended hitting streaks in Wednesday's contest, with Zielinski pushing his hit streak to eight and Bessette increasing his to seven.
- AJ Henkle (Huntley, Ill./Huntley) provided the late-game break-through for UIC, as his two-RBI double in the home half of the seventh inning gave the Flames the lead at 5-4.

- Reece Lawler (Gurnee, Ill./Iowa) earned his seventh save of the season to close the game, inducing a game-ending double play to earn the 5-4 win for the Flames.

UIC will be back in action this weekend, as it hosts Valparaiso for a three-game series at Curtis Granderson Stadium.
