GAME SUMMARY
- The Flames wasted no time jumping out to an early advantage Tuesday evening, as UIC struck for five runs in the opening half inning, as Kendal Ewell drove in the game's first run on a ground rule double to right center field. Ryan Nagelbach then drove in two with a double, and Marcus Heusohn launched his first home run of the season to give the Flames a 5-0 early lead.
- The Wildcats struck back for two in the bottom of the first, but UIC doubled down in the second, tallying six runs in the frame highlighted by two three-run home runs from Ewell and AJ Taylor to give the Flames a 11-2 advantage.
- James Harris drove in a run in the top of the fifth inning on a sacrifice fly, giving UIC a 12-3 lead at the time.
- UIC exploded for six more runs in the top of the sixth inning, putting the game out of reach thanks to RBI singles from AJ Henkle and Ewell, as well as a two-RBI triple from Nagelbach and another RBI for Harris, putting the Flames ahead 18-4.
- Northwestern plated a run in the bottom of the seventh, but it would not be enough to stave off the run rule being put into effect, as UIC took the victory by a 18-5 final score in seven innings.
