CHICAGO (May 3, 2024) – UIC women's basketball head coach
Ashleen Bracey announced Friday that
Julia Coleman (St. Louis, Mo./Westminster Christian Academy/Texas State), a 6-0 forward from St. Louis, has transferred to UIC and will have three years of eligibility to suit up for the Flames beginning with her sophomore season in 2024-25. Coleman is the second student-athlete to commit to the Flames during the offseason, following
Jalysa Stokes (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central/UMSL), who officially joined on April 26.Â
Â
"We are so excited to welcome Julia into our Flames family," Bracey said. "Julia and our staff developed a strong relationship throughout her high school career and was our top high school prospect in the 2023 class. Julia joins us with a strong work ethic and incredible potential. She takes great pride in playing on both ends of the floor and has proven her ability to compete with the top teams in the Sun Belt Conference. She is committed to the standards and culture we have established here at UIC and is eager to contribute to our continued success!"
Â
Coleman comes to UIC after spending one season at Texas State. While there, she averaged 5.9 points and 3.1 rebounds in 11 minutes of action per game. Coleman also turned in the best game of her freshman season in the Bobcats' season finale against Georgia Southern, tallying a career-high 18 points, two blocks and two steals in 23 minutes.
Â
A graduate of Westminster Christian Academy in St. Louis, Coleman was a team captain who finished with 1,425 points, 837 rebounds, 229 assists, 355 steals and 110 blocks. Her efforts landed her first-team all-district honors, while being the district's Co-Most Valuable Player and a St. Louis All-Metro Third Team selection. Coleman was also a nominee for the prestigious McDonald's High School All-America Game in 2023. On the AAU circuit, she played for Missouri Phenom EYBL, led by coach Larry Sutton.
