PEORIA, Ill. (May 5, 2024) – The UIC baseball team (31-13, 14-7 MVC) closed out its three-game series at Bradley (12-32-1, 5-15 MVC) Sunday, as the Flames searched for their second MVC series sweep of the 2024 season. After falling behind in the bottom of the first inning, UIC stormed back and earned a convincing 9-3 win, bringing a series sweep back to Chicago.
GAME SUMMARY
- The Braves took their first lead of the series in the bottom of the first inning, putting up three runs on Flames starter Kendall Lyons (Gurnee, Ill./Warren Township).
- James Harris (Chicago, Ill./Gwendolyn Brooks) started the comeback for the Flames in the top of the second, driving home a run on an RBI single. UIC got another run on a pick-off play with Harris remaining in a rundown long enough for AJ Taylor (Downers Grove, Ill./College of DuPage) to score from third.
- UIC took the lead in the fourth inning, as Pambos Nicoloudes (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) launched his second home run of the season, a two-run shot to give UIC the 4-3 advantage.
- The Flames extended their lead in the sixth, plating three runs highlighted by an RBI double from Ryan Nagelbach (Deerfield, Ill./Deerfield) to take a 7-3 advantage.
- Harris drove in his second run of the game in the eighth with an RBI single, and AJ Henkle (Huntley, Ill./McHenry County College) hit a solo home run in the top of the ninth to give the Flames the 9-3 victory.
The Flames will return home to Chicago this week and begin a four-game home stand by hosting Purdue at Les Miller Field at Curtis Granderson Stadium Tuesday night. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. CT, and can be seen live on ESPN+.
