CHICAGO (Aug. 14, 2024) – The UIC women's soccer team kicks off its 2024 season this Thursday by hosting Chicago State. The match is set for 6 p.m. at Flames Field, but please note that there will be no live stream available.
PRESEASON POLL
In the 2024 Missouri Valley Conference preseason poll,
the Flames were ranked third by the league's coaches. Senior
Yulexi Diaz (Chicago, Ill./Eric Solorio Academy) and junior
Makenna Maloy (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) earned spots on the Preseason All-MVC First Team. Additionally, junior
Sophia Jaime (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) and redshirt senior
Shelsea Rigby (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsborough) received honorable mentions.
SCOUTING CHICAGO STATE
Chicago State ended last season with a 4-12 record, securing victories against Purdue Fort Wayne, Eastern Illinois, Alabama A&M, and Allen University (S.C.). The Cougars return their two leading goal scorers, senior Delaney Kenney and graduate student Barbara Castellanos, each with two goals last season. The two teams have previously met twice, with UIC winning both encounters (2017: 4-0, 2016: 6-1).
MATCH INFORMATION
Thursday's match between the Flames and the Cougars will kick off at 6 p.m. at Flames Field. While there will be no broadcast available, fans can stay updated through live stats on the Flames' website.
