Women’s Soccer Blanks Chicago State 2-0

Juniors Sophia Jaime and Chopper Carriere gave the Flames the early advantage

CHICAGO (Aug. 15, 2024) – The UIC women's soccer team (1-0-0, 0-0-0 MVC) went home with a victory to start the season on Thursday night. The Flames kept Chicago State scoreless, winning 2-0 at Flames Field.
 
Junior Sophia Jaime (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) kicked off the scoring for the Flames within the first 20 minutes of the first half, before junior Chopper Carriere (Austin, Tex./Vandegrift) added another.

COACH'S COMMENT
"The match went the way we expected," said head coach David Nikolic. "Sophia's goal was a little unorthodox, but it came at the right time. We were finally able to break down their backline. That helped us get going and Chopper topped it off with a great finish and great touch."

  • Carriere scored her first collegiate goal off assists from juniors Makenna Maloy (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) and Hannah Gryzik (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove).
  • The Flames fired eight shots on goal, compared to none from the Cougars.
  • UIC remains undefeated against Chicago State, holding an all-time record of 3-0 in their matchups.
UP NEXT
UIC has one full week to prepare for its next match on Thursday, August 22nd . The match against Eastern Michigan will take place at Flames Field at 5 p.m.
