Women’s Soccer Prepares for First MVC Matches

Flames take on UNI Thursday and Indiana State Sunday

CHICAGO (Sept. 18, 2024) – The UIC women's soccer team (1-7-0, 0-0-0 MVC) gears up for its first Missouri Valley Conference matchups of the 2024 season. The Flames will face tough competition, starting with Northern Iowa on Thursday at Flames Field, followed by Indiana State on Sunday. Both matches will be livestreamed, with live stats available.

LAST TIME OUT
UIC dropped its Sept. 12 home match to Kansas City, 1-0. The Roos gained an early advantage, scoring in the second minute of play.
 
SCOUTING NORTHERN IOWA
Northern Iowa leads the Valley standings with a 5-2-1 record. The Panthers began the season with a 1-1 tie against South Dakota, a 5-1 victory over Western Illinois, and a 6-1 loss to Iowa State. They rebounded with a five-match winning streak, starting with a 3-2 win against Saint Ambrose and a commanding 5-0 shutout over Upper Iowa. The streak continued with 3-2 victories against St. Thomas and UT Martin. However, last Sunday, Omaha ended the streak by defeating the Panthers 2-1.
 
Redshirt junior Olivia Knoepfle leads Northern Iowa with four goals, two assists, and 10 points. Senior Lauren Heinsch is close behind with four goals, one assist, and nine points.
 
The Flames continue to seek their first win against the Panthers, holding an all-time record of 0-2-3. The teams last met in September, with UNI securing a 1-0 victory.
 
SCOUTING INDIANA STATE
Indiana State, the second-ranked team in the MVC, holds a 5-2-0 record. The Sycamores opened the season with a three-match winning streak, starting with a dominant 10-0 shutout over Saint Mary-of-the-Woods, a 2-0 win against Miami (Ohio), and a 4-0 victory over Robert Morris, before falling 2-1 to UT Martin. They've also secured wins over Southeast Missouri State (3-0) and SIUE (1-0), while playing to a 1-1 draw with Bellarmine and a 0-0 tie with Eastern Illinois. Their most recent loss came against Marshall (1-0).
 
Senior forward Mackenzie Kent leads the Sycamores with four goals this season.
 
The all-time series between UIC and ISU stands at 1-2-1, with their most recent matchup ending in a draw in October 2023.
 
MATCH TIDBITS
The first 400 fans at Thursday's matchup against Northern Iowa will receive a UIC soccer scarf. On Sunday, prior to kick off against Indiana State, the team will honor 10 seniors. It will also be "Pups at the Pitch," where fans' furry friends will receive a complimentary UIC-branded bandana and dog treats.
