CHICAGO (Sept. 20, 2024) – The UIC volleyball team (7-4, 0-0 MVC) took DePaul (8-3, 0-0 Big East) into back-to-back deep sets Friday night at McGrath-Phillips Arena, ultimately falling short, 3-0.
Freshman
Antonie Kelnárová (Prague, Czech Republic) led the attack with 11 kills and six digs. Sophomore
Gabi Peter (Gilbert, Ill./ Hampshire) collected a season-high nine kills and junior
Ayat Amin (Cairo, Egypt/Al Waha International School) contributed eight kills.
COMMENT FROM HEAD COACH JUSTIN INGRAM
"We knew that DePaul was going to do some continued good things against us, they had a nice match against Milwaukee last night. We expected them to be very efficient just because they were in system all last night. We started off in the first set in the first 15 points in a decent position and then the point spread starting happening when both teams were at 15. We got stuck in a couple rotations and made some changes in the next set. The second and third set was a battle back and forth. As the points became more key and critical, we became a little bit more susceptible to either making an error or a decision wasn't the right decision, and we'd lose the set. You are hopeful that as the season progresses that you are better after 20 points, and we weren't tonight. It wasn't to say that we played poorly because we played at a decent level, but not well enough to maintain momentum for long enough after 20 points."
