CHICAGO (Sept. 21, 2024) – The UIC men's soccer team (4-4, 0-1 MVC) opened Missouri Valley Conference play Saturday night, as the Flames welcomed Missouri State (5-2, 2-0 MVC) to Flames Field for a showdown under the lights.
UIC drew a penalty in the third minute of the match, and
Jesus De Vicente (Casas Bajas, Spain) tallied his first goal of the season, slotting the ball in the bottom right corner of the net, putting the Flames ahead 1-0 early. The Flames were stout defensively throughout the remainder of the first half, carrying that 1-0 lead to the halftime locker room. The Bears drew a penalty kick in the 47
th minute and were able to equalize from the spot. Missouri State took the lead for good late in the match, as a volleyed cross in the 83
rd minute proved to be the match-winner. The Bears added a late tally from a sharp angle in the 89
th minute to seal the 3-1 victory.

- De Vicente's penalty kick goal was his first of the season and fifth in his UIC career. The redshirt senior tallied four goals for the Flames in the 2023 season.
- The penalty kick goal allowed by Kevin Dabrowski (Des Plaines, Ill./Maine West) was his first goal allowed in three career matches played.
