CHICAGO (Sept. 8, 2024) – The UIC women's soccer team (1-6-0, 0-0-0 MVC) fell 3-0 to Gonzaga (3-2-1, 0-0-0 WCC) on Sunday afternoon at Flames Field. The Flames trailed after a first-half goal from the Bulldogs, and Gonzaga sealed the win with two more goals in the second half.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"While the scoreline doesn't reflect it, we had longer stretches of good play today than in some of our previous games, and that was against a very strong opponent," said head coach
David Nikolic. "One area we aimed to capitalize on was corners, and we were assertive in getting to the end line and drawing them. Thursday brings another opportunity, and we will spend this week focused on preparing for Kansas City."
HIGHLIGHTS
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Gonzaga outshot UIC 15-5, but the Flames had more corner kicks than the Bulldogs (5-1).
- Sophomore Amina Marin (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South) made her first collegiate start against the Bulldogs on Sunday.
UP NEXT
The Flames will wrap up their nonconference schedule at home against Kansas City on Thursday, Sept. 12, before kicking off MVC play against Northern Iowa the following week. The Flames will face the Roos at 4:30 p.m. at Flames Field.
