CHICAGO (Jan. 11, 2025) – The UIC men's and women's track and field teams closed out competition in the Badger Midwest Invitational Saturday, as the Flames competed at Gately Park for the second of four events this season. While no team scores were posted for the meet, full event times and finishes can be found here.
 
MEN
Theodore Cunningham, Alexander Das, William Huddleston, and Zachary Barisa set a new school record, placing first in the 4x800m relay with a time of 8:07.87.
 
Angel Solis took 3rd place in the 1000m with a personal best of 2:32.66, moving him to 3rd All-Time in UIC history. Theodore Cunningham followed closely with a 4th-place finish at 2:33.07, earning him the 4th spot in UIC history.
 
Zachary Barisa finished 3rd in the 600m with a time of 1:24.45, while William Huddleston placed 4th with a time of 1:25.87.
 
WOMEN
The women's 4x800m relay team of Alessia Sarussi, Praise Oyebanji, Korima Gonzalez, and Daniela Martinez also set a new school record, winning with a time of 9:07.34.
 
Alessia Sarussi earned 2nd place in the 1000m with a time of 2:54.02, setting a new school record. Daniela Martinez finished 7th at 2:58.14, moving to 4th All-Time in UIC history.
 
COACH'S COMMENTS
"We had several great performances that were filled with lifetime bests in several events," commented head coach Paul Zavala. "Overall, I'm proud of how strong we competed as a team and excited to continue the trend of setting new school records for our program."
 
UP NEXT
The Flames will return to competition in two weeks, as they head to Urbana-Champaign to compete in the Fighting Illini Challenge and Combined Events Jan. 24-25.
