Men's Basketball Captures Another Road Win, 81-74 at Valparaiso

Flames improve to 5-2 on the road while surpassing conference win total from each of first two MVC seasons.

VALPARAISO, Ind. (Jan. 18, 2025) — Senior forward Filip Skobalj (Belgrade, Serbia/Don Bosco-Schule Rostock) put UIC ahead to stay on a three-pointer from the top of the key with 2:54 to play and junior guard Javon Jackson (Houston, Texas/C.E. King/Southern Nazarene/Utah State) converted 7-of-8 free throws in the closing minutes to help the Flames earn their eighth win in the past 10 outings, 81-74 at Valparaiso in Missouri Valley Conference action Saturday afternoon. With the victory, UIC (12-6, 5-3 MVC) has matched its overall win total from each of the past two seasons, while surpassing its conference win total in those initial two campaigns as an MVC member (4 in both 2022-23 and 2023-24).

Jackson finished with a team-high 17 points to lead four Flames in double figures, with seven UIC players finishing with at least eight points. Sophomore guard Ahmad Henderson II (Chicago, Ill./Brother Rice/Niagara) scored 15 points, redshirt senior forward Modestas Kancleris (Kaunas, Lithuania/Varpas Gimnazija/Creighton/Cal State Bakersfield) tallied 13 points and seven rebounds, and sophomore forward Sasa Ciani (Nova Gorica, Slovenia/Koder School/Xavier) registered his third consecutive double-double and MVC-leading seventh of the season with 11 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
