Track and Field Posts Strong Finishes at Aurora Grand Prix

Indoor Season Continues with Another Quality Flames Performance

CHICAGO (Jan. 25, 2025) – The UIC men's and women's track and field teams delivered strong performances at the Aurora University Grand Prix on Saturday, securing fourth place finishes for both teams in the overall standings.

MEN
Daniel Chavez claimed victory in the Mile with a time of 4:14.01, earning 6th All-Time in UIC history.
In the 800m, Angel Solis took 1st place with a time of 1:57.55, while teammate Zachary Barisa finished 2nd in 1:58.46.
Olukolajo Sodipe secured 3rd place in the Triple Jump with a mark of 13.50m.

WOMEN
Praise Oyebanji earned a 1st-place finish in the 400m, clocking in at 58.62, which ranks her 9th All-Time in UIC history.
In the 800m, Alessia Sarussi captured 1st place with a time of 2:12.46, moving her to 4th All-Time in UIC history.
Emma Dubie placed 2nd in the 3000m with a time of 10:19.58.

COACH'S COMMENTS
"We had a great day of competition that was filled with several new personal bests and a few event winners," said head coach Paul Zavala. "I'm excited with the current development of our program and looking forward to entering the most competitive portion of our schedule."

UP NEXT
The Flames will continue their indoor season next weekend at the Meyo Invitational, a two-day event hosted by Notre Dame.
