CHICAGO (Jan. 25, 2025) – UIC women's tennis faced a challenging opponent in DePaul on Saturday, falling 4-1 in a closely contested match at XS Tennis Village.
Freshman standout Dongke Liu shined for the Flames, remaining undefeated in singles competition this weekend. Liu's strong performance highlights her potential as a key contributor for UIC this season.
Although doubles play posed an early challenge, the Flames showcased their strength and determination in singles, fighting fiercely on every court.with several matches coming down to the wire. Head coach Elizabeth Lumpkin Robinson reflected on the team's effort: "We had a tough start in doubles and then settled into singles for a battle. The team score doesn't reflect how tight it was. The two matches that were stopped were extremely competitive. I am proud of the way we fought on every single court, and that relentless spirit will take us far this season. This is only the beginning, and we will take what we learned and build on it."
The Flames will use this experience as a building block for the rest of the season, showcasing their determination and competitive spirit. With plenty of matches ahead, UIC is eager to continue growing and improving as the season progresses.
