Flames roll through Evansville in a 74-43 Victory Thursday Night

The 29-point victory is the largest winning margin for UIC women’s basketball since joining the Missouri Valley Conference in 2022.

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (Jan. 30, 2025) – The UIC women's basketball team (7-11, 4-5 MVC) couldn't be stopped Thursday night at Meeks Family Field House, defeating Evansville (5-15, 1-8 MVC) 74-43 in Missouri Valley Conference road play.
 
Senior Makiyah Williams (Chicago, Ill./Trinity/Marquette) led all scorers on the court with 19 points, four assists and three rebounds. Seniors Ky Dempsey-Toney (Franklin, N.J./Franklin) and Krystyna Ellew (Chicago, Ill./Taft/Wisconsin) each contributed nine points off the bench.

COMMENT FROM HEAD COACH ASHLEEN BRACEY
 
 
"Always good to win on the road, huge team win. Most proud of our defensive effort, held them to 25% scoring and only 12 points in the first half. I think when you play in a league as tough as ours, I think if you are willing to play that level of defense and that intensity, I think you are going to put yourself in a lot of positions to be successful. We are hoping to carry that down the road to Indiana State."

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE
 
  • Tonight's win is UIC's largest winning margin (29 points) against an MVC opponent since joining The Valley. The win surpasses UIC's road victory (64-38) over Bradley on Feb. 25, 2023.
  • Williams finished the game shooting 80 percent from the field, sinking eight of her shots on 10 attempts in just 23 minutes of play.
  • Graduate student Kristian Young (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) collected six assists, and is now 12 assists away from surpassing UIC alumni Terri Bender (2012-17) as the all-time leader in program history in career assists.
  • The Flames bench continue to make a major contribution in the win with 35 points coming from the reserves. UIC's bench remains one of the top benches in the nation, ranking third in points per game (33.1 PPG).
