Women’s Soccer Drops Home Match to Murray State

Flames defeated by Racers 2-1

CHICAGO – With the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) nearing an end, the UIC women's soccer team hosted the Murray State Racers with postseason play on the line. The Flames (5-7-4, 1-3-3 MVC) went up early on the Racers (8-4-4, 3-1-3 MVC) with a goal in the 12th minute, but were unable to hold onto the lead, ultimately falling 2-1. 
 
Following blocked shots on both sides of the field, the Flames were the first to find the back of the net, scoring in the 12th minute of action to take an early 1-0 lead. Riley Collett scored her second goal of the season after winning the ball on the far side of the field on the side of the 18-yard box. Beating her defender 1v1, Collett took a touch inside the box before firing off a right-footed shot over the Racers' goalkeeper and into the opposite side netting. After the Flames took the lead, both teams continued to take their chances, with UIC looking to extend its lead while Murray State looked for the tying goal. The Racers would be the ones to find the back of the net next, scoring in the 39th minute to tie the match at 1-1. Neither team would have another chance at a goal before the halftime whistle. 
 
Coming back out for the second half, the Racers took advantage with a shot in the 59th minute to take a 2-1 lead over the Flames. UIC would look to rebound as it searched for the tying goal, but would come up short on its opportunities.  Although the Flames would outshoot the Racers 14-12 through the 90 minutes of action, the visitors came out on top, 2-1.

The Flames will host their final home regular-season game of the 2025 season on Sunday when they welcome the Belmont Bruins to Flames Field for a 1:00 p.m. kick-off. The Flames will be celebrating Halloween, Sparky's Kids Club, and Pup at the Pitch.
