Volleyball Meets Valparaiso for Midweek Missouri Valley Conference Clash Tuesday

CHICAGO – After a brief two-match road trip last weekend, the UIC volleyball team (8-6, 2-2 MVC) returns home Tuesday night to host Valparaiso (12-5, 3-1 MVC) in a midweek Missouri Valley Conference matchup at Credit Union 1 Arena. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. (CT).

SCOUTING VALPARAISO
  • Tuesday's contest marks the 64th all-time meeting between the two programs. UIC holds a narrow 32-31 advantage in the series and has won all eight match-ups since joining the Missouri Valley Conference in 2022.
  • The Beacons are coming off a strong weekend on the road, securing five-set victories over Bradley (8-8, 2-2 MVC) and Illinois State (7-9, 2-2 MVC). With a 3-1 conference record, Valparaiso is tied for second in the MVC standings alongside Belmont (12-3, 3-1 MVC).
  • Statistically, Valpo ranks second in the conference in blocks (2.45), kills (13.88), assists (12.82) and points (17.61) per set.
  • Sophomore Jessica Pickett, the reigning MVC Player of the Week, posted a .391 hitting percentage and averaged 2.88 kills per set to close out September. She tallied 11 kills and six blocks in a win over Drake before finishing her weekend with a career-high 12 kills against UNI (11-5, 4-0 MVC).
LAST WEEKEND RECAP AT ILLINOIS STATE/BRADLEY
  • The Flames once again split a weekend of MVC play, falling to Illinois State in four sets on Thursday before bouncing back with a straight-set victory over Bradley on Friday.
  • Sophomore Antonie Kelnárová paced the attack with a team-high 2.83 kills per set over the two-match stretch.
  • In the win over Bradley, Kelnárová, junior Gabi Peter and senior Julieta Sandez each tallied nine kills to lead the offense.
  • Freshman libero Ava Young continued to make an impact defensively, recording back-to-back 15-dig performances while averaging 4.29 digs per set on the weekend.
