Cross Country Heads South for the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships

The Flames will look to continue their remarkable seasons.

STILLWATER, Okla. - Coming off its last race which saw the men tie for the best finish in a conference championship meet in school history, UIC is looking to continue its season Friday, at the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships, hosted by Oklahoma State University. The women will be competing against 37 schools, while the men face 33.
 
RACE INFORMATION
 
The women's 6,000m race will begin at 10:30 a.m. (CT).
 
The men's 10,000m race will begin at 11:30 a.m. (CT).
 
The race will take place at the Greiner Family Cross Country Course in Stillwater, Okla.
 
The race will be broadcast on ESPN+.

FLAMES TO WATCH
 
Women Men
  • Senior Daniel Chavez holds the UIC school-record holder in the 8k.
  • Sophomore Zachary Close second all-time in school history in the 8k.
  • Senior Alex Bacci fifth all-time in UIC history in the 8k.
 
MVC CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP
UIC had three student-athletes earn All-MVC recognition for their performances. Daniel Chavez was named to the All-MVC First Team, placing 3rd overall, with Alex Bacci and Theodore Cunningham earning All-MVC Honorable Mention, finishing 11th and 15th respectively.

MEN
  • Earned a runner-up finish in the 8K, tying the best-ever team finish at a conference meet by either gender in program history.
  • Daniel Chavez led the Flames with a 3rd-place finish in 24:23.78.
  • Alex Bacci placed 11th in 24:51.79.
  • Theodore Cunningham finished 15th in 24:58.12.
  • Zachary Close came in 16th with a time of 25:01.90.
  • Angel Solis rounded out the scoring five in 29th place at 25:27.45.
