Normal, Ill. – Securing a spot in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) Women's Soccer Championship match for the first time in program history, the No. 6 seed Flames will travel to take on the No. 4 seed Illinois State Redbirds. The championship match will kick off at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday at Adelaide Street Field. Livestream will be available on

HISTORY VS ILLINOIS STATE
This will mark the eighth all-time meeting between the Flames and Redbirds, with the Flames leading the series 4-2-1. UIC and Illinois State met just over three weeks ago in Normal, Ill., where they fought to a nil-nil draw. During the match, the Redbirds outshot the Flames 9-7, with three shots on goal to two.
Riley Collett led the team with three shots, one on goal.
Sara Sanabria and
Francesca Faraci split time in the net, combining for three saves.
LAST MATCH RECAP
The Flames moved on to the championship match following 120 minutes of action and a penalty shootout on Thursday against Murray State. Finishing regulation and overtime tied 1-1, the Flames went on to defeat the Racers 4-3 in the shootout. During regulation, the Racers took a 1-0 lead in the 31
st minute, but the Flames continued to fight. With time ticking away, the Flames were awarded a penalty kick in the 86
th minute, where
Kaysey Castro converted the goal to tie the match. Following two 10-minute overtime periods, UIC and Murray State headed to a penalty kick shootout to determine a winner. In the end, the Flames came out on top 4-3, with goals coming from
Hannah Gryzik,
Camryn Ries,
Sophia Jaime, and
Katelyn Nardulli. In goal,
Sara Sanabria recorded two saves, helping send the Flames to the championship match
