CHICAGO (Feb. 16, 2025) – The UIC men's and women's track and field teams delivered standout performances at split meets this weekend, competing at Grand Valley State University's Big Meet and the North Central College Chicagoland Championships. The Flames set multiple school records and earned several top finishes as they continue their indoor season.
GRAND VALLEY STATE – THE BIG MEET
MEN
- 3000m: Alex Bacci finished 15th overall with a time of 8:26.94, ranking #7 All-Time in UIC history.
WOMEN
- 3000m: Daniela Martinez set a new school record with a time of 9:42.50, finishing 12th overall. She broke her own record from earlier this indoor season.
- Mile Invite: Alessia Sarussi finished 9th overall with a time of 4:48.65, setting a new school record and improving upon her own previous mark.
- Mile Invite: Praise Oyebanji ran 4:55.41, placing 18th overall and moving to #2 All-Time in UIC history.

"We are excited to see our team continually elevate our program to a new standard and proud to see the success from their hard work over the year," said head coach Paul Zavala. "Over the next few weeks, our focus will shift to MVC Indoor Championships and preparing our team for a competitive weekend."
UP NEXT
The Flames will close the indoor regular season with one final meet on Saturday, Feb. 22 at the Alex Wilson Invite in South Bend, Ind., hosted by Notre Dame. UIC is co-hosting the MVC indoor Track and Field Championships the following week at Gately Park.
