COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Becoming just the third UIC track & field athlete to compete on the national level, graduate student
Alessia Sarussi made her mark competing in the 1500m run at the 2025 Track & Field West First Round on the campus of Texas A&M.
Sarussi competed in the third heat of the 1500m run, racing against 12 other student-athletes. Crossing the finish line in 9
th place, Sarussi finished with a time of 4:25.74.
Coming into the meet ranked 40
th, Sarussi improved to a 34
th-place ranking out of 48 competitors in the four-heat event.
COACH'S COMMENTS
"Alessia gave her best effort against the best in the country, unfortunately, she was unable to have the performance needed to advance to the next round," said head coach
Paul Zavala. "We are proud of all the dedication and success Alessia has given our program this past year. She has left an incredible legacy in a short span, and I'm grateful for how she represented our team at the National Championships."
