MOBILE, ALA. (Feb. 6, 2025) – The UIC softball team is set to begin their 2025 season on Friday, as they travel to Mobile to compete in South Alabama's Invitational presented by Marriott Mobile beginning Friday, Feb. 7.
 
Only two of the Flames games will be streamed on ESPN+ when they face off against the hosting South Alabama Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. (CT). The rest of the games fans will be encouraged to fall our social media platforms at X (@UIC_Softball) and Instagram (@uic_softball). Live stats will also be available to follow each game along at UICFlames.com.

SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN STATE
 

• This will be the fifth time the Flames and Demons are set to meet out on the diamond. Splitting the series at two games apiece, both programs will compete for the first time since Feb. 18, 2001.
• The Demons are coming off of a 19-31 campaign a season ago, going 5-18 against Southland conference opponents.
• The Demons were selected to finish ninth in the Southland Conference's preseason poll that was revealed on Jan. 30.

 
SCOUTING SOUTH ALABAMA

• This will be the first time in program history that the Flames and Jaguars will be competing against one another.
• South Alabama is coming off of an NCAA Regional appearance a season ago, finishing with an overall record of 34-20-1.
• The Panthers were elected to finish third in the Sun Belt Conference's preseason poll that came out on Jan. 29.

 
SCOUTING UAB
 

• This will be the second and third time UIC and UAB are preparing to clash. In their lone meeting on May 4, 2000, the Flames outlasted the Blazers 5-2 in front of the home crowd at Flames Field led by the work of two-time All-American Samantha Iuli in the circle and RBIs off the bats of Gina Arnold, Julie Bumgardner along with Kathy Casey.
• The Blazers finished the 2024 season with a 23-29 record, going 14-13 against American Athletic Conference opponents.
• UAB was selected seventh in the AAC's Coaches Preseason Poll on Jan. 23.

 
FLAMES FACTS
 

• UIC is entering its third season in the Missouri Valley Conference. They finished last season going 19-35, with a 12-15 record in conference play.
• Back in the batter's box is senior Hailey Cowing (Torrance, Calif./West Torrance) who was just selected to the Missouri Valley Conference All-Preseason Team on Tuesday returns to the Flames after batting .347 with 26 hits and a .402 on base percentage.
• Returning to the circle is redshirt senior Alyssa McIntosh (Lancaster, Calif./Lancaster). She led the team last season with a 2.56 ERA, pitching 65.2 innings, striking out 20 battters she faced.
• Sophomore third baseman Cameran Rios (Effingham, Ill./St. Anthony's) had a stellar first year with the Flames, batting .281 with 28 hits, a pair of doubles, a triple and seven RBI.
