Baseball Drops Series Opener to Purdue 7-1

Flames Match Boilermakers’ Six Hits, But Fall in Lafayette Friday

LAFAYETTE, Ind. – The UIC baseball team (3-14, 0-0 MVC) opened a three-game series at Purdue (16-2, 2-1 B1G) Friday, as the Flames and Boilermakers clashed for the 25th time in series history.

The Boilermakers jumped out to an early advantage, plating three runs in the opening frame on a deep home run to right field from Brandon Anderson. They would add another run in the second and one in the fourth to open up a 5-0 lead. The Flames got their first hit of the afternoon in the top of the fifth, and plated their first run of the game two innings later, as AJ Taylor tallied the lone RBI of the night on a single to left field.

Despite a rocky start, Dillon Schueler battled Friday night, getting through five and a third innings allowing only four earned runs. Purdue would go on to win the opener by a 7-1 final score.
