IOWA CITY – The UIC baseball team (3-16, 0-0 MVC) continued its season-long eight game road swing Tuesday evening, as the Flames took on a B1G opponent for the fourth straight game, squaring off against Iowa (11-8, 4-2 B1G).
UIC wasted no time getting on the board Tuesday, as
AJ Taylor drove home the game's first run on a Hawkeyes throwing error, scoring
Lucas Smith from third base. The Hawkeyes would answer back, plating a single run in each of the first three innings to go ahead 3-1. Iowa would add a single run in the bottom of the seventh, and despite out-hitting the Hawkeyes 6-5, the Flames were unable to push across another run, falling by a 4-1 final score with the tying run in the on deck circle.
Â
Smith and
Luke Nowak both tallied multiple hits in the game, and
Smith also reached base twice via walk. The UIC bullpen surrendered just two runs in 6.2 innings of work and only walked one batter on the evening to keep the game close to the final out.
