CARBONDALE, Ill. – The UIC baseball team (4-16, 1-0 MVC) opened Missouri Valley Conference play Friday, as the Flames traveled south to take on Southern Illinois (13-7, 0-1 MVC).

The Salukis took an early advantage in the third inning, plating three runs to open the scoring. The Flames answered with five runs over the next two innings to take a 5-4 lead. After UIC took a 7-4 lead, the Salukis drew within one at 7-6 on a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh.

UIC tallied an insurance run in the top of the eighth, and exploded for nine runs in the top of the ninth, running away with the 17-6 win, jumping to the top of The Valley standings at 1-0.

The Flames had five players with multiple RBI on Friday, including
Luke Nowak,
AJ Taylor, and
Terrick Thompson-Allen who each tallied three on the night.
Dillon Schueler earned his first victory of the season on the mound, going six innings and scattering just four earned runs.
