CHICAGO (March 20, 2025) – The UIC women's basketball team (14-17, 10-10 MVC) returns home to Credit Union 1 Arena this Friday, as the Flames gear up to face-off against UAB (16-15, 7-11 AAC) in the opening round of the 2025 WNIT Tournament. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m. (CT).
The game will be available to stream on ESPN+ with Terry Bonadonna and Kalia Butler on the call. Live stats will also be available at

SCOUTING UAB
- This will be the first match-up between the Flames and the Blazers.
- UAB finished its season losing in the first round of the American Athletic Conference Tournament to eventual runner-up Rice (17-17, 7-11 AAC). Sophomore Jade Weathersby led the Blazers with a double-double, scoring 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.
- UAB has a trio of scorers averaging 10+ points per game, led by graduate student Maddie Walsh, scoring 11.6 points a game.
- Weathersby was the lone Blazer to receive postseason accolades from the AAC, earning Second Team All-Conference. Weathersby ranked 19th in NCAA in defensive rebounds per game with 7.2 and tallied 9.4 total rebounds per game.
- UIC Head Coach Ashleen Bracey and Assistant Coach Kara Rawls have both previously spent time at UAB. Bracey was with the Blazers from 2012-2015 serving as the Recruiting Coordinator and an Assistant Coach. Rawls spent three seasons at UAB as a player (2015-18) and returned to Birmingham as an Assistant Coach from 2022-24.
MISSOURI VALLEY CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT OVERVIEW
- The Flames made it to their third consecutive Quarterfinals round at the 2025 Credit Union 1 Missouri Valley Conference Women's Basketball Tournament in Evansville last weekend, falling to Missouri State (25-8, 16-4 MVC) 77-70.
- UIC was led in scoring by senior Ky Dempsey-Toney (Franklin, N.J./Franklin) with her fourth career double-double, scoring 20 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
- Graduate student Keimari Rimmer (Chicago, Ill./Proviso East/DePaul) scored 11 points and collected five boards with 25 minutes on the floor. Rimmer has scored in double figures in seven of the past eight games.
- Senior Arin Freeman (Little Rock, Ark./North Little Rock/Coastal Carolina) also netted 11 points with 20 minutes off the bench.
A SEASON OF CAREER MILESTONES
- Graduate student Kristian Young (Indianapolis, Ind./Lawrence North) left her mark during her time at UIC. She is the program leader in games played (144) and career assists (538).
- Senior Krystyna Ellew (Chicago, Ill./Taft/Wisconsin) has landed 58 three-pointers this season, the ninth-most made triples in a single season.
- Freeman surpassed the 1,000 career point milestone on Dec. 13, 2024 in a 10-point performance in UIC's 113-53 victory over North Central. Now with 1,186 career points, 216 of those points came in a Flames uniform this season.
- In the three seasons with Bracey at the helm, the Flames have collected 51 wins. Before Bracey's tenure, the last time UIC hit the 51-win mark was between 2014-2022.
