DEKALB, Ill. – The UIC baseball team (5-18, 1-2 MVC) closed out its seven-game home stand on Wednesday, as the Flames traveled to in-state rival Northern Illinois (8-13, 1-8 MAC) for the first of two matchups this season.
UIC's offense exploded early and never looked back, scoring in nearly every inning of a dominant 13-5 victory over NIU. The Flames jumped ahead in the first with a pair of RBI singles from
Luke Nowak and
Lucas Smith before adding three more runs on bases-loaded walks.
Vidal Colon's RBI single in the second made it 8-1, and UIC capitalized on a balk in the seventh to extend the lead.
Brady Patterson delivered the biggest blow with a two-run homer in the eighth, his first hit in a Flames uniform, while
DJ Butler and
AJ Taylor each drove in runs late to seal the win.
David Cox earned the victory in his second start of the season, going six strong innings and allowing just one earned run.
