Baseball Opens Homestand with Loss to Indiana State Friday

Flames Unable to Keep Pace with Sycamores Offensively in Series Opener

CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team (5-19, 1-3 MVC) opened a three-game series against Indiana State (12-13, 3-1 MVC) on Friday, as the Flames returned to Missouri Valley Conference play looking to gain ground in the early season standings.

The Flames fell behind in the first three innings, as the Sycamores jumped ahead 4-0 thanks in part to a wind-aided two-run home run in the top of the third. UIC wasted no time answering back, as it tallied five runs in the home half of the third inning, highlighted by a bases clearing double off the bat of Terrick Thompson-Allen to bring home three and tie the game at 4-4. James Harris drove in the go-ahead run on an RBI double of his own to give the Flames the 5-4 advantage.

Indiana State took the lead for good in the fifth inning, plating 12 runs over the next four frames to take control of the game, earning a 16-5 victory in eight innings.
