Track and Field Finishes at Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships

The Flames co-hosted the meet for the third straight season with Valparaiso.

CHICAGO (Mar. 4, 2025) – The UIC men's and women's track and field teams saw several members make event finals at the 2025 Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships on Sunday, Mar. 2 and Monday, Mar. 3.
MEN
  • The Distance Medley Relay team of Theodore Cunningham (Palatine, Ill./Fremd), William Huddleston (Park Ridge, Ill./Maine South), Zachary Barisa (Frisco, TX/Frisco Wakeland) and Daniel Chavez (Berwyn, Ill./Morton) finished fourth overall in a time of 10:03.55, the second fastest time in school history.
  • Chavez finished the 3000m in 8:19.51 which placed sixth. The time was the second fastest in UIC history.
  • Angel Solis (Aurora, Ill./Waubonsie Valley) finished eighth overall in the 800m with a top three time in school history of 1:53.06.
WOMEN
  • Alessia Sarussi (La Grange, Ill./Lyons Township) ran a personal best in the 800m with a time of 2:10.34 and placed fourth. Praise Oyebanji (Mundelein, Ill./Mundelein) finished the 800m in eighth with a time of 2:24.55
  • The Distance Medley Relay team of Sarussi, Sariyah Watson (Dekalb, Ill./Dekalb), Oyebanji and Daniela Martinez (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) set a new personal best at 11:46.54 and placed sixth.
COACH'S COMMENTS


"Overall we had an exciting weekend co-hosting the Missouri Valley Conference Championships and thrilling to have several of our team members make their event finals." said head coach Paul Zavala. "I'm proud of how hard our team competed this indoor season and great to see all the hard work of our team pay off during the Championship weekend."
