Softball Drops Tuesday Doubleheader to Valparaiso

Flames drop game one 3-2 and game two 15-3 in six innings

Chicago, Ill. – Back on Flames Field, the UIC softball team welcomed the Valparaiso University Beacons for a cold April Fools Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) night doubleheader. The Beacons (15-16, 4-6 MVC) went home with both victories, defeating the Flames (4-31, 0-10 MVC) 3-2 in game one and 15-3 in six innings in game two.

GAME ONE RECAP

The first inning came and went before both teams picked up at least a run in the second. In the top of the second, the Beacons scored two, while in the bottom of the second, the Flames scored one off a Grace Fleming single to cut the score in half. In the top of the third, the Beacons extended their lead with one run. The Flames attempted a walk-off comeback but fell just short as they could only plate one run in the bottom of the seventh off a Hailey Cowing home run to left field before falling to the Beacons 3-2 in game one.

GAME TWO RECAP

A scoreless first inning quickly turned in favor of the Beacons, who put up three runs in the second. The Flames would add one of their own in the second when a Jojo Santiago single to center field scored Emma Gumont. In the top of the third, the visitors put up another three-run inning before the Flames cut their lead in half in the bottom half of the inning off a Gumont two-RBI double to right center. At the end of the third inning, the scoreboard read 6-3 in favor of the Beacons. After a scoreless fourth inning, the Beacons ran away with the lead, scoring three runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth, ultimately taking game two 15-3 over the Flames
