MURRAY, Ky. – The UIC baseball team (8-23, 4-6 MVC) began a three-game series against Murray State (22-8, 6-4 MVC) Friday night, as the Flames and Racers met for just the eighth time in all-time series history.
Â
The Flames got another strong starting pitching outing from
Dillon Schueler, as the right hander held the Racers' offense off the board for the opening three frames before surrendering a single run to Murray State in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double that bounced over the head of the right side of the Flames' infield.
Â
Despite allowing an RBI double and a sacrifice fly to make the lead 3-0 in the fifth,
Schueler would finish the inning before handing the game off to the bullpen for a scoreless three innings.
Â
UIC plated its lone run of the game in the top of the seventh, as
Thomas Curry came in to score from third on a failed pickoff attempt at first base.
Â
Despite surrendering only five hits on the day to a Murray State offense that tallied 38 runs in a midweek game on Wednesday, the Flames were unable to narrow the gap late, falling 3-1 in the series opener.
