Baseball Stymied in Series Opener at Murray State

Flames Unable to Keep Pace Offensively in Friday Pitcher’s Duel

MURRAY, Ky. – The UIC baseball team (8-23, 4-6 MVC) began a three-game series against Murray State (22-8, 6-4 MVC) Friday night, as the Flames and Racers met for just the eighth time in all-time series history.

The Flames got another strong starting pitching outing from Dillon Schueler, as the right hander held the Racers' offense off the board for the opening three frames before surrendering a single run to Murray State in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI double that bounced over the head of the right side of the Flames' infield.

Despite allowing an RBI double and a sacrifice fly to make the lead 3-0 in the fifth, Schueler would finish the inning before handing the game off to the bullpen for a scoreless three innings.

UIC plated its lone run of the game in the top of the seventh, as Thomas Curry came in to score from third on a failed pickoff attempt at first base.

Despite surrendering only five hits on the day to a Murray State offense that tallied 38 runs in a midweek game on Wednesday, the Flames were unable to narrow the gap late, falling 3-1 in the series opener.
