MURRAY, Ky. – The UIC baseball team (9-24, 5-7 MVC) closed out its weekend series at Murray State (23-9, 7-5 MVC) on Sunday, as both sides were in search of a crucial Missouri Valley Conference series victory.
Â
The Flames got on the board first with two in the second, as RBI for
AJ Taylor and
DJ Butler put UIC ahead 2-0. Following a game-tying pair for the Racers in the bottom of the second,
Terrick Thompson-Allen re-gained the two-run advantage with his second home run of the season, a two-run shot to left field.
Â
Murray State took a 9-4 lead over the next three innings, with five in the third and one in the fourth and fifth innings.
Luke Nowak began the climb back for UIC, as his sixth inning RBI single pulled the Flames back within four.
Nowak was also part of a four-run eighth for the Flames, as his three-run home run got the Flames within two at 11-9. Despite having the tying run on base in the ninth, UIC was not able to complete the comeback, falling by an 11-9 final score.
