Chicago, Ill. – In their second meeting of the 2025 season, the UIC softball team traveled just over five miles north to take on the DePaul University Blue Demons in a non-conference game on April 15
th. The cross-town rivalry favored the home team, as the Blue Demons (14-24) defeated the Flames (7-36) 11-3.
RECAP
The Blue Demons got on the board early with a run in the bottom of the first to take a 1-0 lead. After a scoreless second inning, the Flames tied the game in the top of the third when
Grace Fleming scored off a
Hailey Cowing RBI single. The bottom of the fourth saw the Blue Demons put up a multi-run inning as they recorded five runs off four hits, taking a 6-1 lead over the Flames. Fleming hit a lead-off triple in the top of the fifth and later scored to give the Flames their second run of the day.
Emma Gumont then homered in the top of the sixth inning, briefly cutting the Blue Demons lead in half before the home team added on five more runs in the bottom half of the inning, earning the win via run rule.
