CHICAGO – The UIC baseball team (12-28, 8-9 MVC) continued its three-game series hosting Bradley (9-28, 5-12 MVC) on Saturday, as the Flames looked to even the series after
dropping the opener 4-1 Friday night.
Â
UIC got on the board first, as
Thomas Curry's first inning home run put the Flames on top 1-0 early. The two teams alternated scores in the third inning, with
James Harris' sacrifice fly re-gaining the one run advantage.
Â
The Flames answered another Braves run in the fourth, as
Lucas Smith's sac fly put the Navy Pier blue ahead 3-2. The big blow came off the bat of
Vidal Colon, as his three-run blast to put the Flames up 6-3 proved to be enough in the end. A
David Cox sac fly and a
Luke Nowak RBI bunt single provided insurance for UIC, who went on to win by an 8-5 final score, evening the series 1-1.
Â
Nowak, Curry, and
Colon each tallied three hits on the day, adding to UIC's 14 on the day. Those 14 hits are the Flames' second most in a single game this season, behind only a 17-hit effort against Southern Illinois on March 21.
Â
Tommy Egan earned the victory on the mound for UIC, his third victory in his last four starts, all against MVC opponents.
